In May, a good friend had asked me to bring my blue S13 to a show & shine at his dealership. Robert was always there for me when I needed parts, and never hesitated to represent for Autodream while I was there, so it was an automatic YES.
My S13 was in disarray, but I figured I had time, as the show wasn’t until July. But May turned to June, and June turned to July, and the likelihood of me completing my car in time, was slim-to-none. Luckily, Farid at JDM Tuners had just brought in an ultra-rare factory manual S15 Silvia Varietta, and it would be a great time to show off the car. Also, he has an R34 sedan with an R34 GTR RB26 swap, and 6 speed transmission that needed to be driven, so the decision was made to bring those two instead. (which were both better options to begin with)
As the countdown approached to the day of the show, the weather did not look like it was going to co-operate. It had been raining heavily, and there was flooding in certain areas of Calgary. The morning of the show was no different, heavy rain, and we began to re-assess whether or not we would be able to come out, especially since we couldn’t come to the show with the top down on the Varietta. Luckily however, the weather decided to settle down, and the rain stopped.
The drive was long. We were basically coming from the opposite side of the city, and we needed to cross mostly without hitting any major highways. The R34 had not seen the streets for quite some time, so there was some unburnt fuel in the exhaust, and was smoking heavily. But expectedly, it cleared up as we drove along. It’s a beautiful car, and hopefully i’ll get to see it driven more often.
As we rolled into the show, it seemed as though there were a few people that had already left. It ran from 10-3pm, and we didn’t get there until about 12:30. As it had rained earlier, there were puddles throughout our drive and the cars were fairly dirty now (what a waste of a wash!), but it seemed as though most of the other cars had that same issue.
On to the photos
Harjot’s S14 is the probably one of the only VH45DE swapped S-chassis in Alberta. He’s running a Borg-Warner S366 with a EcuMaster Black. The car is impressively making 480whp at only 8psi. He’s planning to run the car on E85 and push it to about 12psi, so i’m curious about how much it will make with these changes.
Gurpreet’s S13 I can dig it. It’s a chuki coupe on Work Emotion XD9’s, with an OE Silvia sides/rear and a front lip that I believe was retrofitted off of a CD Honda Accord. It looks subtle, but this car has a 2J swap. The swap looks like it is tilted on the right side, so I will probably ask him next time I see him why it’s like that, but otherwise, the swap is fairly clean with a shaved engine bay.
FUN FACT: He is still running stock ecu and no tune. Car still makes 430whp.
Justin’s G35 looks unassuming until you open the hood. Nothing on the exterior leads you to believe that this car is making nearly twice the power of a stock G35. The swap looks clean, and it surprisingly looks like it belongs in there. He’s using a Collins adaption kit to run his stock CD009 transmission on the 2JZ
David’s S15 is always a show stopper. This car is pretty rowdy, and should be even moreso with the built head that he recently purchased.
Robert has owned his 240sx for as long as I can remember. It’s cleanly done, and sits just right. He did alot of the work himself, including spraying the car
With a new set of wheels, the car will be mostly complete.
Dante’s beautiful S13 with Origin Stylish body kit and Origin Type-3 fenders with aggressively sized SSR Agle Minervas. Judging by the track in the front, it looks like it has a full angle kit as well. Almost looks too nice to be drifting with it.
2 generations of S-chassis drop tops. There was a brief hiatus for the S14 chassis where there was no convertible S-chassis.
Interestingly, although both S13 and S15 Silvia convertibles were done by Autech, the North American version here was done by ASC.
This car is so pristine. Z31’s are the forgotten Z, it doesn’t have the significance of the Z32 and the S30’s, not as modern as the Z33/34, and are probably only trumped by the S130 for how unpopular it is.
These cars actually do have alot of potential, with many VG30ET in race applications, including the IMSA GTP cars.
Overall it was a good event. With a bit more marketing and hype (and good weather) this event should be successful in future iterations.
